ONLINE LEARNING FOR COUNSELLORS & PSYCHOTHERAPISTS

WORKSHOP RECORDING DETAILS

Statistically one in four people will experience some level of Domestic Abuse in their life, this may range from situational abuse to severe and enduring relational abuse.

Between April 2016 and March 2019, 3 women per fortnight were murdered by male partners or ex partners and out of 83 male homicides, 39 suspects were female (ONS 2020).

Female to male, child to parent violence, forced marriage, honour-based violence and female genital mutilation are also very real causes for concern in our society, so much so that a new Domestic Abuse Bill was passed in April this year that provides a wide-ranging definition of abuse and will further strengthen measures to protect victims, children and minority groups.

This workshop will provide the underpinning knowledge and skills to assess and confidently work with clients. We will consider the depths and extremes of abuse, the questions we need to ask, risk assessment and safety planning. You will learn how to support those who are able to talk about their experiences as well as those who feel the need to hide their abuse.

Both psycho-educational and discursive approaches will be used to learn about the different types of abuse, the emotional and psychological manifestations of abuse and the problems that may arise with pre-trial therapy.

We will consider impact and well-being and how self-care for victim, survivor and professional is paramount.
